Tom Hingley
The Arches, Tynemouth
Back at The Arches for another fantastic night of great music.
Another amazing artist. The super talented Tom Hingley from Inspiral Carpets.
I got there early because I knew tonight was a full house.
First stop Alfie and Fin's downstairs to sample one of their martinis👌
This evening I was treated to two local acts.
Lee J Toby is up first. He plays a selection of songs from his EP Live at The Barca. Immediately I am drawn by the beautiful vulnerability of his voice on Thanks For Letting Me Know. The rest of his set doesn't disappoint. This lad is also an awesome guitarist.
Second act is the super talented Paper Boats. A four piece who manage to make it work on a small stage. Acoustic and electric guitar, keyboards and percussion. Listening to songs from their self titled EP I really get a sense of the North East.
By the time Tom arrives on stage the venue is full and I have made a new friend. A big soft staffy wants attention. A dog friendly music venue is such a good idea.
Tom takes everyone on a magical musical journey through his extensive back catalogue.
His voice is still amazing. He plays stripped down versions of Inspiral Carpets hits Saturn 5 and This Is How It Feels. When he sings Dragging Me Down the line"I wanna take you to Tynemouth" goes down a treat,as does the addition of Summer Nights from Grease.
Other highlights are the beautiful Leaving It All Behind and Sometimes I Talk To The House from the album Sand.
Tom's blues guitar on the song Waiting For The Walls To Come Down is stunning.
I don't think I've ever seen an artist so immersed in his music. If you do anything try and see this amazing artist live.
Kim Blu.
