The ELO Show -Review- Customs House

 The ELO Show

The Customs House

Saturday 18th September 2021

Having seen The ELO Show once before I knew I was in for a great night and I certainly wasn't disappointed. As the name suggests it was a night fillled with classic ELO songs and also things like a song by Travelling Wilburys (another band Jeff Lynne was part of) and a few pleasant surprises including Xanadu (obviously without Olivia Newton-John on vocals) The Diary of Horrace Wimp was a particular highlight for me, Turn To Stone too, and of course their finest moment, the instantly recognisable and feel good song Mr Blue Sky which closed the show (I mean, how could you possibly follow that one)

The two hour show was a delight both musically and visually. The musicianship is excellent and includes a live string section. The vocals and harmonies were brilliant and the light showand video screen added an extra excitement to the event.

Speaking of the video screen there were a few technical hitches in that the video screen just stopped a few times throughout the show, but things happen with live events and it never detracted from the music. Also, and the reason why I enjoy this band so much is the singer. He is great with the audience, you just warm to him and as my mam said when he was filling in by telling jokes whilst the screen was being fixed...he should be a comedian. You can't help but laugh along when he makes reference to his wig and beard and when introducing the songs saying things like this one is from The Greatest Hits of ELO or The Best Of ELO I'll look forward very much to seeing The ELO Show again and hopefully they will return soon to The Customs House which is always a great place to see live shows
