ROYALTY THEATRE TO SHOW CLASSIC THRILLER DIAL M FOR MURDER
The Royalty Theatre will begin their spring programme with Frederick Knott’s Dial M for Murder.
The play is perhaps best known for Alfred Hitchcock’s screen adaptation, which starred Grace Kelly and Ray Milland. The crime thriller follows former tennis pro Tony Wendice, who devises a brilliant plan to have his wife murdered, along with the perfect alibi. He blackmails a former acquaintance to carry out the murder, but not everything goes to plan.
The play runs from 18th to 23rd March and a strong cast includes Abbi Laidler, James Errington, Lee Wilkins, and John Appleton. Alex Goodchild, fresh from winning Best Actor at the recent Durham and Sunderland One-Act Festival, completes the cast.
The Royalty have also announced details of three upcoming shows from visiting companies to be shown in the spring: First up is David Farn’s The Desert Queen, which chronicles the life of local-born explorer and writer Gertrude Bell. Sunderland Theatre Company return with Jesus Christ Superstar, while an adaptation of Catherine Cookson’s The Cinder Path also features. Details for all can be found on the theatre’s website, www.royaltytheatre.co.uk.
